According to Variety, Dwayne Johnson has signed on the dotted line to star in a brand new Christmas movie for Amazon Studios. Red One is the tile of the film which is coming to the screen from Fast and Furious writer Chris Morgan from an original treatment by Hiram Garcia, who is president of production at Seven Bucks, Johnson’s production company.
The film will start shooting in 2022 for a late 2023 release. The trade says that the film is described as a “globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy” which imagines “a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”
There aren’t too many more details, but Garcia seems to have had the idea for the movie in the back of his mind for years. He posted the following on Instagram on Monday.
“Dwayne and I have always wanted to do a big holiday movie but couldn’t find a story that truly captured our vision. Because of that I decided to take an idea I’ve had for years and flesh it out creating a story and a universe that delivered on all the things we wanted to see in a big holiday film. I shared the idea with close friend and collaborator Chris Morgan who fortunately said “Oh yeah! I want to write THAT!” and we had our team ready to go! We took our project out to the town and I was truly blown away by the incredible reception.”
