Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks 3’ has officially started shooting

August 2nd marks the first day of principal photography.

As he turns 51, Kevin Smith has confirmed that he has started shooting Clerks 3. The filmmaker took to Twitter to announce the news of the first day of production on the new movie, which will be released, we presume, sometime next year.

Smith’s tweet read: “Today is my last day of being a 50 year old. I turn 51 tomorrow as we start shooting CLERKS III – a sequel to a movie I dreamed about making 30 years ago, when I saw Richard Linklater’s masterpiece SLACKER for the first time on the night on my 21st birthday.”

As we previously reported, Smith returns to write and direct as well as return to the role of Silent Bob for a third outing in the hit series. Jeff Anderson returns as Randal, along with Brian O’Halloran as Dante, Jason Mewes as Jay, and Rosario Dawson as Becky.

The film is said to revolve around Dante who, following a heart attack, brings together all of his friends to immortalise his life at the convenience store where it all started nearly three decades ago.

Lionsgate will distribute the movie worldwide. More as it comes in.
