In just over two weeks, London’s Leicester Square will once more be taken over by the dark heart of cinema as genre festival Arrow Video FrightFest returns in real-life. Due to the stranglehold that the global pandemic had over the nation this time last year, the event, like many others, took place in the virtual world only. After a year away though, the four horsemen of horror are coming back strong, screening just under sixty new and exciting films that champion all things weird and macabre. In the run-up to the festival, team THN is sharing some exclusive interviews with the talent behind some of this summer’s line-up.
Showing on Discovery Screen One on Monday, Greywood’s Plot is an enthusiastic and low-budget feature that follows a pair of friends, Miles and Dom, as they go in search of the mythical chupacabra. The film is a black and white love letter to the zany mad science movies of the fifties, but transplanted into our modern social media obsessed society. A film that fully embraces the Robert Rodriguez El Mariachi format of working, Greywood’s Plot was created by a small group of friends who ended up both in front of, and behind, the camera.
Greywood’s Plot is written and directed by Josh Stifter (who also stars as Dom), a keen filmmaker with a background in animation. Stifter has previously appeared on the show Robert Rodriguez’ Rebel Without a Crew on which he created his first feature, The Good Exorcist. Stifter’s love of film is evident in every scene, Greywood’s Plot being packed to the rafters with clever nods to movies of bygone days. His passion was still clearer when we caught up with him ahead of the FrightFest premiere to find out more about the project.
Greywood’s Plot will receive its UK premiere at Arrow Video FrightFest on Monday 30th August 2021. Tickets for the screening can be purchased on the FrightFest website.
