Michel Franco’s dystopian thriller ‘New Order’ coming to DVD and Blu-ray in October

The film has received huge acclaim on its theatrical and MUBI debut.

If you’ve been on the site over the past week or so, you’ll know that I have been absolutely raving about Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco’s new film Sundown after it was screened at TIFF. Well, here’s some info on his prior work, New Order, which MUBI has announced that it will release on the home formats in October.

The film is a shocking and provocative depiction of class warfare in contemporary Mexico. Winner of the 2020 Venice Film Festival Grand Jury Prize and recently long-listed for a BAFTA in the Best Film Not in English Language category, this is a gripping dystopian drama that dares us not to look away.

When the lavish upper-class wedding of two affluent citizens is suddenly interrupted by violent rioters who take their house by siege, it soon becomes apparent that this seemingly random attack is part of a nationwide working class uprising. As seen through the eyes of the sympathetic young bride Marianne (Naian González Norvind) and the servants who work for – and against – her wealthy family, New Order breathlessly traces the collapse of one political system as a more harrowing replacement arises.

New Order will release on DVD and Blu-ray on 11th October through MUBI (you can stream it on the service now). The only bonus feature we’ve been told of is a Q&A with director Michel Franco and Naian González Norvind. Check out the box art below.
