October is just around the corner, which means that it is very nearly Halloween, and the perfect time to begin your scary movie feast. Most of us are planning on starting the spooky season early, but it can be tough to work out exactly what to watch. Amazon and Blumhouse have us covered though, so we don’t even need to leave the house to find new frightening content to watch this year. Following on from the success of their Welcome to the Blumhouse series of feature films of last Halloween, the two companies have worked with a range of new talent to create four more sinister and chilling movies.
Amazon will release two new Welcome to the Blumhouse films on Friday 1st October, with the final pair landing the week after on 8th October. Gigi Saul Guerrero’s Bingo Hell has the honour of being one of the two films that will be kicking off this year’s crop of frights. Saul Guerrero’s film stars Mexican acting legend Adriana Barraza as Lupita, a woman who tries to save her beloved Bingo hall from the clutches of its ominous new owner (played by Richard Brake). Bingo Hell traverses all genres: action, drama, comedy and horror, throwing back to films such as Joe Dante’s Gremlins and Richard Donner’s The Goonies. What makes Bingo Hell so great is that it positions the elderly as the kick-ass heroes. The cast is a wonderful collection of different ages, races and backgrounds, with Saul Guerrero giving voice to characters that are usually either glossed over or stuffed into a corner.
Before arriving on Amazon this week, Bingo Hell debuted at Fantastic Fest where it wowed the crowds with its entertaining blend of horror, humour and heart. A few days after the screening we were granted time with cast members Adriana Barraza, Richard Brake, and rising star Joshua Caleb Jackson.
Bingo Hell arrives on Amazon Prime on 1st October 2021.
