First trailer drops for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Lost Daughter’ following its festival debut

The film comes to Netflix on 31st December.

So, Netflix has dropped the very first trailer for The Lost Daughter, a new film that is the directorial of Maggie Gyllenhaal. This one just played at LFF where I happened to catch it. It is a remarkable film with a stellar cast. Olivia Colman leads with the likes of Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Paul Mescal also amongst the cast. Here’s the artwork for the release featuring Colman herself.

The story is as follows:

Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda (Olivia Colman) becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach. Unnerved by their compelling relationship, (and their raucous and menacing extended family), Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of early motherhood. An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.

The film was awarded Best Screenplay at this year’s Venice International Film Festival, and also opened to some huge acclaim at this past week’s BFI London Film Festival.

It will arrive on the Netflix platform on 31st December.

Here’s the trailer.
