According to Deadline, Place Beyond The Pines and Blue Valentine filmmaker Derek Cianfrance is in talks with Universal Pictures to direct a new version of the Wolfman. If he boards the project, which it looks like he is, it would re-team him with star Ryan Gosling who is placed in the lead role.
The film was set to be directed by The Invisible Man helmer Leigh Whannell, but he has had to step away reportedly due to scheduling issues. Cianfrance will write the screenplay for the feature as well as direct, so reported the trade.
There aren’t any plot details around this as yet, but the film is reportedly set to take place in the present day.
Cianfrance last directed the movie version of the book The Light Between Oceans with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. He since has worked on TV mini-series I Know This Much Is True and executive produced and had a ‘story by’ credit on the Oscar-nominated Sound of Metal.
