There’s a whole zombie cinematic universe shaping up quite nicely over on Netflix which kicked off with Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, which was released earlier this year. Now, I have some affection for that movie and look forward to what is presented before us in the prequel, Army of Thieves from Matthias Schweighöfer (who played Dieter in the first movie), which arrives on the platform this week. As well as a linked-in animated series on the cards, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, an Army of the Dead sequel is also in the works fro mSnyder himself, and it might just have got itself a title.
The title of the Army of the Dead sequel is reportedly Planet of the Dead, suggesting the infection has gone way past the boundaries of Sin City. Snyder himself has been speaking with Inverse, and also commented that a major character may also return in his follow-up.
“The real adventure would be to see what happened to [Dieter] when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don’t see him die on camera, and there’s still some time left. I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 – aka Planet of the Dead – but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there’s a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline,” Snyder said.
Big fan of Dieter and Schweighöfer so can’t wait to see what he has done with the prequel that hits this week, and I hope he does indeed return for more zombie action in the further instalments.
In the prequel, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
