Whether your girls are coming over for that long-awaited slumber party or whether you plan to enjoy a lazy Sunday at home all by yourself, comedy movies are unbeatable when it comes to entertainment. Some call them mood boosters, while others use them as an example to show off the benefits of using sugar paste for waxing. Any time is a perfect time to watch comedies. You can literally watch them at any time of the day!
Here are a selection of Hollywood comedies that are simply “unmissable”!
- There’s Something About Mary (1998)
Directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly, this gross-out comedy is arguably their best work. The classic ’90s film stars the amazing Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, and the also Cameron Diaz in one of her break out roles. The film director duo is best known for inventing the gross-out humor of the ’90s, and this one is one of their most popular and indeed best. Featuring superb performances from Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller, the film is an absolute must if you’ve not seen it.
Meet The Parents, once again starring Ben Stiller, pits him opposite an A-list cast that includes Robert De Niro. While meeting your would-be parents-in-law is guaranteed to be stressful, things turn worse when your fiancée’s father is an ex-CIA agent (played by De Niro) with suspicious nerves. And things do turn hilarious with his lie detector machine in one of the film’s best scenes. Ben Stiller is haplessly funny and De Niro is also brilliant, and at his funniest. This film can crack you up even when you are watching it for the umpteenth time.
- The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
In this movie, three child prodigies who grow into adult burnouts, are asked to return to New York upon the wishes of their dying father. Directed by Wes Anderson and narrated by Alec Baldwin, the script is noted for its dry wit, and its sweet yet sad undertones. You are going to love the stellar performances by Gwyneth Paltrow, Luke Wilson, and of course, once again, comedy king Ben Stiller.
The Big Sick is perhaps one of the best films release back in 2017. The film is written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V Gordon, a couple in real-life, too, with Nanjiani leading the cast. A hit critically, particularly on the festival circuit, as well as with audiences, the film is a funny, sweet, semi-autobiographical tale that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next.
It is hard to miss off Jack Black when you think of Hollywood comedies. In this movie by director Richard Linklater, Black plays a very loveable character who, as a substitute educator, coaches a whole class of misfits to compete in a Battle of the Bands. You will love and enjoy the sharp quick-witted one-liners that are strewn across this film, along with the superlative performance by young actors onscreen is funny and stellar.
