Top 5 Oscar Isaac Performances

Life Itself review

Over the years, Oscar Isaac has established himself as a leading actor. He’s been successful both on television and in the movies. Let’s look at his top five performances.

Inside Llewyn Davis

2013 saw Isaac in his breakthrough role when he partnered with the Coen Brothers. He played the title role as we see a week in the life a folk singer trying to make it in the music business. That feels a long way away as he’s broke and couch-surfing. It gets even worse when Davis is attacked, loses a cat and then gets told his girlfriend is pregnant and wants an abortion.

Could a novelty song he’s composed turn his life around? Isaac was nominated for a Golden Globes award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

The Star Wars Franchise

Getting to play a character in a franchise such as Star Wars is always handy. Isaac has played the role of Poe Dameron in three movies and voiced the character on television. He first played the role in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ in 2015.

His role as a resistance X-Wing pilot who is searching for Luke Skywalker has made him another member of the Star Wars family. Isaac calls Dameron “the best freaking pilot in the galaxy” and although hardly Oscar material, it’s helped make his name, just as his appearances in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ have.

The Card Counter

What do you do if spending eight years in a military prison? Well, learn how to count cards of course and that’s just what William ‘Tell’ Tilich (played by Oscar Isaac) does in this 2021 crime movie. His character doesn’t use his talents to go and get massive wins. Instead, he bets small and wins modest amounts nearly every day. If watching this movie gets you interested in gambling, go to Casumo for the best online casino experience.

Till doesn’t like or desire responsibility, nor does he want to be involved in a friend’s planned military revenge mission. Eventually he joins the World Series of Poker aiming to make enough money to retire and help his friend start a new life. Throw in a romance and this looks like being one of his best roles.

Show Me a Hero

Oscar Isaac has also enjoyed great success on television. 2015 saw him star in the miniseries ‘Show Me a Hero.’ It tells the story of a battle to stop a public housing development in New York. Isaac won a Golden Globe for the Best Actor in a miniseries or television film.

The Promise

This 2016 movie saw the versatile actor playing another nationality. This time he was an Armenian medical student, living in Turkey just before World War I. The promise in this movie is for him to marry the daughter of a wealthy neighbour, for which he’ll receive 400 gold coins as a dowry.  However, he then falls in love with another woman and more problems arise when the war begins. It’s not the most cheerful of movies but Isaac is on top form.
