‘Squid Game 2’ reportedly in the works

One of the big hits of the year, streaming-wise, has clearly been Squid Game, and it will come as no surprise that there could be a sequel series on the way. The AP is reporting that series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has committed to a second run, and Lee Jung-Jae’s character Gi-hun will reportedly return.

Squid Game S1

“So, there has been so much pressure, so much love, and so much demand for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us with no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when or how that is going to happen. So I will promise you this…Gi-hun will come back and he will do something for the world.”

The AP tweeted out their interview with Hwang which you can see below.

The official synopsis for the first series is as follows.

A mysterious invitation to join the game is sent to people at risk who are in dire need of money. 456 participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games in order to win 45.6 billion won. Every game is a Korean traditional children’s game such as Red Light, Green Light, but the consequence of losing is death. Who will be the winner, and what is the purpose behind this game?

The first series of Squid Game is now playing on Netflix and I urge you to check it out if you haven’t managed to do so already. Literally one of the best shows of the year. The first run has played to 142 million and is the top-rated original series in the history of the streamer.
