Colin Farrell’s Penguin to get own TV show

It looks like there will be a television spin-off for Colin Farrell’s Penguin following his appearance in the forthcoming Matt Reeves superhero movie, The Batman. Variety is reporting the news of the new Penguin spin-off show, which is in the works for HBO Max.

Lauren LeFranc is writing the show after penning episodes on the likes of Chuck and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She most recently worked on the TV series Impulse, which came to an end in 2019. The trade reports that both The Batman director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark would executive produce the Penguin series.

Plot details are unknown, but it is thought that the show would follow the Penguin’s rise through Gotham’s murky underworld – so it would be a prequel piece, supposedly, to the events of The Batman – but that is unconfirmed.

The planned Penguin series is in addition to the Gotham P.D. series from Joe Barton that has also been put into development at Warner Bros. Television.

More as it comes in. The Batman will be released in cinemas on 4th March 2022.
