The tenth ‘Fast and Furious’ movie will arrive in cinemas slightly later

According to the trade papers, the tenth film in the ‘Fast and Furious’ series will arrive in cinemas a month later than originally expected. The tenth installment was set for an April 7, 2023 release stateside, but that has now been pushed back a month to May 19, 2023.

Deadline reported the news late Tuesday of Universal’s slight shift, making the new movie an official summer tentpole. ‘Fast 9’ was released earlier this year following a delay due to the spread of the pandemic, but still managed to pull in $681.5 million in receipts. The film also did well on premium VOD, then digital release, and the following physical releases.

The plot for the movie was as follows:

Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) thought he’d left his outlaw life in the rear-view mirror, but not even he can outrun the past. When his forsaken brother Jakob (John Cena, Bumblebee) unexpectedly resurfaces as an elite assassin, the crew comes back together to help Dom confront the sins of his own past and stop a world-shattering plot.

There were all sorts of surprises around each corner and I will be interested to see what they do with the next one, the first of a two that will end the two-decade-long action series.

Justin Lin will return to direct number ten in the series, and Vin Diesel will return as Dominic Toretto.

Universal said an untitled DreamWorks Animation film will take its place in the April slot.
