Interview: Stephen Moyer on ‘Confession’, ‘The Last Survivors’, and making movies during the pandemic

Essex born actor Stephen Moyer is best known to audiences for his portrayal of Southern vampire Bill Compton in the television series True Blood. The show, which ran from 2008 to 2014, was a worldwide success and catapulted Moyer into the big leagues. The actor had of course already been working for a number of years appearing as Prince Valiant in the film of the same name, as well as TV shows Ultraviolet and NY-LON. Since True Blood ended, Moyer’s career has gone from strength to strength as he traversed both television and film in a range of diverse and interesting projects.

His drive to continue creating hasn’t been deterred by the Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst so many have been unable to work, Moyer has been fortunate to star in several films shot during the current climate. Three of these projects, Code of Silence, The Last Survivors, and Confession are just starting to arrive in the UK. Each film is completely different from the others, one focusing on British true crime (Code of Silence, which is available now), another telling a father and son tale within an apocalypse (Last Survivors), and the last one (Confession) presenting an intimate chamber piece. The variety of these productions further exemplifies why Moyer is such an interesting actor, his body of work isn’t confined to any one box and maintains a high standard of quality. Not content with acting alone, Moyer also seized the opportunity during the pandemic to direct his second feature film, A Bit of Light.

Ahead of the release of both Confession and The Last Survivors, we caught up with the actor and director to find out more about all these different bodies of work and uncovered some of the advantages of making a movie during the pandemic.

Code of Silence is out now. Signature Entertainment presents Confession on Digital Platforms 31st January. The Last Survivors is due out sometime early 2022.
