A new Tom Hanks film, ‘A Man Called Otto’, has had a Christmas 2022 release confirmed

Some release news now and A Man Called Otto, a new film based on Frederik Backman’s acclaimed novel, “A Man Called Ove,” has been slapped with a Christmas 2022 release date after being acquired by Sony at the recent EFM.

David Magee wrote the screenplay for the film, which is being directed by Marc Forster. Rachel Keller, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Mariana Treviño are also amongst the cast of the film, which sees Hanks play the titled character of Otto, a ‘crotchety, irritable, and fiercely strict widower.’

Collider has a detailed synopsis:

[Otto] holds his whole neighborhood bound to his principles as he judgmentally observes them all every day. Just as this isolated (and deep-down lonely) man who’s still grieving the loss of his wife seems to have completely lost the spark for life, wishing for death, he strikes an unlikely friendship with his new neighbors. Slowly but surely, Otto begins to change. But the road to change is not an easy one when old habits die hard.

The source material was previously adapted into a Swedish-language film in 2015 and this new American version will hit screens in the US on Christmas Day. We’re guessing that a UK release will be around then, or shortly afterwards, which is often the case.
