News has reached us that two big studio movies are on their way to this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Deadline reports that Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis with Tom Hanks and Austin Butler, and Tom Cruise-led Top Gun: Maverick are heading to the Croisette this May.
This year’s festival in the south of France will be 100% in-person and runs from 17th-28th May.
Elvis explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Top Gun: Maverick needs no introduction. It is, of course, the sequel to the 1986 blockbuster led by Cruise which, after being much delayed due to the Covid pandemic, will finally hit cinemas this summer.
More as it comes in.
