Spiderhead, a Netflix-based science fiction/ action film led by Chris Hemsworth will be arriving on the streaming platform this summer. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also has another big-budget actioner set for screens just prior, Top Gun: Maverick.
Miles Teller, Jurnee Smollett, BeBe Bettencourt, Tess Haubrich, Angie Milliken, Stephen Tongun, Mark Paguio, Sam Delich, and Joey Vierira are also among the cast of Spiderhead, which is based on The New Yorker short story, “Escape From Spiderhead,” by George Saunders. The screenplay is written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland).
The film is about two inmates who form a connection while grappling with their pasts in a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary who experiments on his subjects with mind-altering drugs.
In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too. But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption take a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether.
The film will stream on the Netflix platform from 17th June. Expect a trailer very soon.
