The 75th Cannes Film Festival has officially kicked off in the south of France. This is the first proper in-person festival (at capacity) since 2019 and the Croisette is already buzzing ahead of nearly two weeks’ celebrating everything film.
Competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or this year are the likes of Kelly Reichardt, David Cronenberg, James Gray, Ruben Ostlund, Claire Denis, and more, while high profile movie stars including Tom Cruise are expected to descend on the famous Palais des Festivals (pictured above).
The festival opens this evening with a screening of Michel Hazanavicius’ new film, Coupez! (Final Cut), itself a remake of the 2017 zombie comedy One Cut of the Dead.
Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis film is also set to premiere out of competition later in the festival, while there will be also celebrations on the beach celebrating anniversaries of films like This Is Spinal Tap and The Godfather.
