New trailer for Berlin competition film ‘The Passengers of the Night’

A new, what looks to be Australian trailer for Berlinale Competition film The Passengers of the Night starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Noée Abita, Quito Rayon Richter, Megan Northam, Thibault Vinçon, and Emmanuelle Béart, has just been released online.

I actually saw this film in Berlin and remember it as a really decent drama with Gainsbourg on fine form as Elisabeth, a singer mother left to care for two children in 198s Paris.

The film comes to the Sydney Film Festival next month, hence the new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis:

Election night, 1981. Socialist François Mitterrand has been declared president and there are hopeful celebrations across Paris. But it is not a happy night for Elisabeth (Charlotte Gainsbourg), whose marriage has come to an unexpected end. She must find the means to support herself and two teenaged children. When she lucks upon a job on her favourite talkback radio show, she meets Talulah (Noée Abita), a charismatic young woman who is struggling, and invites her home. Free-spirit Talulah has a lasting impact, inspiring confidence in each of the family members. With exquisite production design, a lovely soundtrack and clever use of archival footage, this heart-warming film is filled with small acts of kindness that have profound effects.

No release dates for this one as yet but we’ll obviously keep you posted.

Here’s the trailer.
