Action film ‘Renegades’ sells at Cannes; Saban to handle US distribution

Upcoming action film Renegades has sold to various territories at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, which sees the likes of Moran (Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels), Lee Majors (The Fall Guy) and Danny Trejo (Machete) among its cast, shot in both the UK and the US last year. North American rights sold to Saban) while other territories sold include Middle East (Eagle Films), English-speaking Africa (Daro), Japan (New Select), Korea (Lumix), Eastern Europe (MediaSquad) and Portugal (Nos Lusomundo).

In Renegades, when a veteran Green Beret is murdered in cold blood by a drugs gang that has been threatening his daughter, his old Special Forces comrades band together to seek revenge, dispensing their own brand of justice on the mean streets of London.

Daniel Zirilli directed the film, which is produced by Jonathan Sothcott.

The film also stars Louis Mandylor (Debt Collectors), Patsy Kensit (Lethal Weapon 2), Ian Ogilvy (We Still Kill The Old Way), Billy Murray (Rise of the Footsoldier), Paul Barber (The Full Monty), Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Nemesis), Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), Stephanie Beacham (Dynasty), Michael Brandon (Dempsey & Makepeace) and, in one of his last appearances, Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister (The Fifth Element). 

Producer Jonathan Sothcott commented: “Renegades delivers on every level for audiences, with a wonderful cast of beloved veteran actors, high octane action sequences and a clever, witty script that elevates it above the standard ‘bang bang’ fare. We believe we have an instant cult movie here and are already developing a sequel.”

Release is expected later this year and a trailer is promised soon.

Shogun Films’ next project with Daniel Zirilli is contained US action siege thriller Crossfire, written by Chad Law and Josh Ridgway, currently in pre-production with cast to be announced soon, followed by Crackdown, which sees an unconventional US lawman teaming up with a cynical Scotland Yard detective to bring down a ruthless European drugs gang.
