The superb sex worker drama Her Way is set to get a release date in the UK courtesy of Blue Finch Releasing. I caught this film at last year’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and really fell for it. Laure Calamy (Call My Agent!) leads the cast of the film, the feature debut by director Cécile Ducrocq.
Marie (Calamy) is a confident, optimistic sex worker in Strasbourg who is determined to provide a better life for her 17-year-old son, Adrien (Nissim Renard). He is a bottomless pit of apathy and negativity whose only passion in life is for cooking. The opportunity to attend a prestigious and expensive cookery school forces Marie to take increasingly desperate measures to fund his place.
The film actually won a Special Jury Prize at Tallinn last year and got a four-star review from us, too. Calamy ‘commands every scene she’s in, ensures the film grabs you from the off, sucking you into a story essentially about the bond between a single mother and her son, and specifically her best intentions for his future.’
So pleased that the film is getting a theatrical release in the UK, currently slotted for 26th August.
I really dug it. Catch my full review here and the new trailer below.
