Excellent thriller ‘Emily The Criminal’ gets a UK release date

One of the best films to come out of Sundance this year is the Aubrey Plaza-led Emily The Criminal, a UK release date for which has finally been announced by Universal. The film will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on 9th February before rolling out on digital to rent and own from 24th October.

Emily (Plaza) is saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record. Desperate for income, she takes a shady gig as a “dummy shopper,” buying goods with stolen credit cards supplied by a handsome and charismatic middleman named Youcef (Theo Rossi: Sons of Anarchy). Faced with a series of dead-end job interviews, Emily soon finds herself seduced by the quick cash and illicit thrills of black-market capitalism, and increasingly interested in her mentor Youcef. Together, they hatch a plan to bring their business to the next level and are pulled into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles…

I love this film and reviewed it at Sundance calling it a ‘taut, very intense, though grounded thrill ride with a remarkable central performance from Aubrey Plaza. Also a solid debut from debut writer and director John Patton Ford who is absolutely one of the most exciting filmmakers to emerge from Sundance in years.’

Yes, that good. The full review is up here and the latest trailer is below.
