Interviews: The cast of ‘Freeze’ on the FrightFest media wall

Saturday 29th October saw the UK premiere of writer and director Charlie Steeds’ latest film, Freeze. Although Steeds himself couldn’t be there, he did send along several key cast members to represent the film. Present to steer the ship in Steeds’ absence was Hellraiser’s Chatterer Cenobite, Nicholas Vince. Although Vince does not star in Freeze, he did introduce the screening and hosted a post-screening Q&A. Freeze is a period-set horror that tells a chilling tale of arctic creatures intent on mankind’s destruction…

Freeze

On a rescue mission to the North Pole to retrieve an old friend and his lost expedition crew, Captain Mortimer gets more than he bargained for when his ship is frozen into the ice sheet and set upon by bloodthirsty fish-creatures. Mortimer and his surviving crew flee the ship, beginning a treacherous journey to find safety in a frozen desolate wilderness. Suffering from starvation, frostbite, and a slow madness, they find shelter inside a snowy mountain, but are they as safe as they think, or have they entered the heart of the creature’s lair? Freeze takes elements of the first season of television series The Terror, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and swirls them with fragile male egos. It’s an interesting tale that, in a weird way, could be viewed as a prequel to Steeds’ other movie, The Barge People.

Several stars of Freeze – Johnny Vivash, David Lenik, Ricardo Freitas, and Jake Watkins – were in attendance at the festival to support the UK debut. They took time out from the celebrations to walk the media line and discuss their time on location with us. Find out who struggled the most with the icy temperatures of Norway, and what it is about horror that makes it so special in our media wall interviews below.
