Mike Hodges, the legendary British film director has passed away at the age of 90, according to Variety. The filmmaker died at his home in Dorset, south England o 17th December.
He was known for his work on Get Carter, the iconic Michael Caine film from the early ’70s, Pulp, Croupier, the campy Flash Gordon and later, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.
We were very lucky to interview Hodges a couple of years ago, looking back at his film Black Rainbow.
Chatting to us in that interview, Hodges spoke about the timeless nature of the supernatural film, as well as his best-known work, Get Carter.
“Both Carter and Black Rainbow, they have a curious sense of timelessness. Get Carter could have been Newcastle at any time from the 1940s onwards. Rainbow’s much the same, it could be any time. I don’t think I did it deliberately, it was done accidentally. You don’t know when it’s taking place in a way.”
He is survived by his wife, sons, and grandchildren.
