Michael Giacchino will direct the ‘Them!’ remake

Deadline is reporting that legendary composer Michael Giacchino is set to make his feature directorial debut with the remake of Them! Giacchino, who is responsible for some of the biggest scores of the last couple of decades, including The Incredibles, Star Trek, Spider-Man: No Way Home, made his directorial debut with the Marvel Studios special presentation, Werewolf By Night, last year.

Them! is set up over at Warner Bros. and the word on the street is that Giacchino will also score the movie.

Them! revolves around a nest of giant ants in the New Mexico desert with the original movie climaxing with a face-off in the Los Angeles sewer system.

Giacchino also did the music for Jurassic World: Dominion, Pixar’s Lightyear, Thor: Love & Thunder and The Batman, all of which were released last year. The trade says that this latest project will see him unite with his brother, Anthony, who made the Disney+ documentary short ‘Director By Night’, also released on the streaming platform last year.

The original Them! was released back in 1954 and was directed by Gordon Douglas and is hailed as one of the first ‘big bug’ nuclear movies. James Whitmore leads the cast as Sgt. Ben Peterson with Edmund Gwenn, Joan Weldon, and James Arness also on the credit list. The film was nominated for an Oscar for its visual effects.
