Sky has sent along the first look and indeed first trailer for the upcoming documentary Villeneuve Pironi: Racing’s Untold Tragedy which is set to premiere on Sky Documentaries in the UK very soon. The film focusses on the story of Formula 1 driving legends Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi and their rise to glory culminating in that infamous and tragic 1982 Formula One season.
Featuring archive footage and new interviews with the likes of Joann Villeneuve, Melanie Villeneuve, Jacques Villeneuve, Catherine Goux, Didier Pironi, Gilles Pironi and Formula One World Champions Alain Prost and Sir Jackie Stewart, the film will land on the channel and on-demand services from 19th March after premiering at the Glasgow Film Festival earlier that month.
In the midst of modern racing’s most dangerous era, two daring Ferrari teammates were battling for the world championship, but at the San Marino Grand Prix, Pironi broke an unwritten team agreement, “stealing” victory from his teammate and close friend Villeneuve on the final lap.
