The Equalizer 2 review

Some big news hit the trades over the weekend – yes, Denzel Washington looks like he’s joining the cast of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel. The news hit courtesy of Deadline on Friday which would mean Washington would join the likes of Aftersun‘s Paul Mescal who is leading the cast.

Washington is said to be in final negotiations for the film, which would see him reunite with Scott following their work on the superb American Gangster which also starred original Gladiator Oscar-winner Russell Crowe. The film won five Academy Awards following the film’s release back in 2000.

David Scarpa wrote the screenplay for the new film, which Deadline says that will follow Mescal’s ‘Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the son of Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who murdered his father and seized the throne.’

No news on who Washington will play but we’ll keep you posted.
