The BFI has released a Pretty Red Dress trailer ahead of the film’s release in the summer, specifically June. MNatey Jones and singer/ actress Alexandra Burke lead the cast of the film which is described as an uplifting family drama.
Pretty Red Dress is written and directed by Dionne Edwards. It is produced by Georgia Goggin for Teng Teng Films, with financing from the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, and BBC Film, in association with Magellanic Media Ltd with support from Great Point Media. The film was developed with BBC Film, the BFI and the Sundance Institute.
Travis (Natey Jones) has just been released from prison and finds everything has changed while he’s been gone. While girlfriend Candice (Alexandra Burke) is on the up and auditioning to star in a musical, teenage daughter Kenisha (Temilola Olatunbosun) is struggling in school and her relationship with her mum is tense. When Travis buys Candice her dream dress for the audition to smooth over the family’s problems he ends up creating even more… As secrets and desires threaten to spill out, Travis is forced to re-examine who he is and how he wants to be perceived in the world.
This looks really good and I’m looking forward to seeing it. The film was screened at last year’s BFI London Film Festival in the capital where it got some pretty decent reviews with some comparing it to the brilliant Kinky Boots from a few years ago, a film that went on to become a hit West End musical.
As well as the Pretty Red Dress trailer we also have a poster for the film which you can check out above. The release date has been set for 16th June for cinemas all over the UK so you’ll all be able to check out the movie from then.
