One of the most well known Hollywood actors has to be Ben Affleck. The Academy Award winning actor began his career as a child actor, first appearing at age seven in indie film The Dark End of the Street.
Over the years he’s had a string of other interests, from watching baseball to co-founding many non-profit organisations and even playing cards with many of his Hollywood peers. He gained his experience like other beginners by learning all about the wide range of different poker games on offer for various players that like to enjoy casino platforms online.
Overall, this actor and business man has certainly had an incredible career, with many films to his name. Below, we’ve listed the top ten Ben Affleck films you need to line up for your next film night – although it may take a few of them!
Dogma
Another film from early in Ben Affleck’s career, Dogma has Ben playing along co-star Matt Damon. This comedy drama was released in 1999 and directed by Kevin Smith. It was well received by critics and features a song by famous 90s celebrity and artist, Alanis Morrisette.
Good Will Hunting
Any list featuring Ben Afflect films has to include Good Will Hunting. Written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, this film stars both actors alongside Robin Williams, and won Affleck and Damon “Best Original Screenplay” at the Oscars. The film was met with many positive reviews, especially towards the cast. Good Will Hunting was nominated for nine Academy Awards in total of which it won two, with Robin Williams receiving the accolate of Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film.
Chasing Amy
Chasing Amy was one of Affleck’s first roles where he played the lead, and stars Joey Lauren Adams as well as being directed by Kevin Smith. Released in 1997, this romantic comedy drama won two awards at the 1998 Independent Spirit Awards and received generally positive reviews from critics.
The Tender Bar
One of Ben Affleck’s latest films, The Tender Bar is a film based on the 2005 memoir by J. R. Moehringer which is about his life growing up in Long Island. For his role in the film, Affleck was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award as well as a Golden Globe. It’s an independent and small film, but has a fantastic story to tell.
Hollywoodland
Certainly a different type of genre for Ben Affleck, this neo noir from 2006. It’s a fictionalised story that centres on the real life, mysterious death of George Reeves, who Ben Affleck plays. Released to mostly positive reviews, Hollywoodland isn’t one of Ben Affleck’s best-known films but certainly one worth watching.
Smokin’ Aces
Smokin’ Aces is another film that Ben Affleck might not be known for, but features an incredible line-up of cast. Starring the likes of Alicia Keys, Jason Bateman, Common, Andy Garcia, Ryan Reynold, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven and others, this star-studded lineup of talent brings depth and interest to a film that got mixed reviews.
Argo
The 2012 film Argo was based on the 1999 book by Tony Mendez and is a great one to watch if you’re looking for a political drama. It was a fantastic role for Affleck and a good place to test out his directing skills. The film took home the Best Picture Oscar, many thinking it was well deserved.
Dazed and Confused
Released in 1993, this American coming-of-age comedy was written and directed by Richard Linklater. This film had a huge range of great actors, many of whom, like Mathew McConaughey, was their first ever role. In this film, Ben Affleck plays a true bro in the role of bully O’Bannion.
This cult classic has stood the test of time and remains popular today.
Finding The Way Back
Considered to be one of Ben Affleck’s best performances in the past ten years, in Finding The Way Back our leading star plays the role of a divorced alcoholic who is asked to coach the basketball team of his high school. This is a raw and intense portrayal of someone suffering from alcoholism, and a particularly challenging role for Ben who has suffered from the disease. There was buzz about the Oscars for this one, and while it didn’t get nominated it was nominated for two People’s Choice Awards and a Critic’s Choice Award.
Gone Girl
If you haven’t seen it before, you need to get watching as soon as possible. Gone Girl is one of Ben Affleck’s best films, and one that continues to remain popular long since its release back in 2014. Rosamund Pike stars alongside Affleck and brings an amazing performance to her leading role.
