First look at Takeshi Kitano’s ‘Kubi’ which will premiere in Cannes this year

A very first-look trailer has arrived for Kubi, Takeshi Kitano’s new film which is among the line-up at this year’s Cannes Film Festival which kicks off later this month. Takehiko Minato wrote the screenplay for the new feature, adapted from Takeshi Kitano’s novel The Head.

The story is as follows (as per Variety):

The film depicts the historical ‘Honno-ji Incident’ from 1582, when a key vassal of Oda Nobunaga rose in revolt and caused his master to commit hara-kiri in Kyoto. The reasons for the revolt and whether Akechi Mitsuhide was really the ringleader have been debated ever since.

Kitano’s first film was 1989’s Violent Cop, his other work includes Sonatine which also premiered at Cannes in 1993.
