Warner Bros. Pictures has released the new trailer for The Color Purple, a new adaptation of Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The film will be arriving onto cinema screens stateside on Christmas Day.
Blitz Bazawule directs from a screenplay by Marcus Gardley. The source material was previously turned into a movie by director Steven Spielberg in 1985. He returns to produce this new version along with Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones.
Fantasia Barrino leads the cast reprising her Broadway role alongside Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Colman Domingo as Mister, H.E.R. as Squeak, Halle Bailey as Young Nettie, Corey Hawkins as Harpo and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Mama.
The story follows the lifelong struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s.
