‘Blackberry’ movie to air in the U.S. as three-episode series

One of my fave movies of the year is the superb Blackberry from director Matt Johnson. The movie premiered at the Berlinale earlier this year, where we caught it, and was released in the UK very recently – actually earlier this month. However, in an interesting development, following a theatrical release earlier this year, the film is being transformed into a three-part limited series on AMC stateside.

Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton lead the cast of the film which revolves around the rise and fall of the telephone and technology giant.

Blackberry was reviewed by us as follows:

The film moves along at a pace and the filmmakers try to pack a lot in – maybe to its fault, but if you’re a fan of this kind of movie, then it is absolutely all laid out there for you to lap up. It is exactly as you expect the film to be, presented in a fun, comedic style, all topped off by wonderful central performances. There is also an absolutely cracking soundtrack and some brilliant ’80s and ’90s references and pop culture nods which is still oh-so-very in vogue at the moment.

Reviewed at the Berlinale in February 2023.

The news was confirmed by AMC’s social channels revealing that the two-hour movie will be stretched to three hours with never before seen material. I can see why this would work as a series – it’s a really engrossing watch and the extra runtime will allow the storytellers to get into much more detail.

Love this movie and will definitely be tuning into Blackberry: The Limited Series, though no word currently if there will be any other territories taking the route of a streaming series or just releasing the movie onto services in the near future.
