One of the best thrillers I’ve seen this year is the vertigo-inducing Fall – actually released in cinemas last year. The film has caught a bit of a following on the digital and streaming networks and it has proved so popular that it will be getting not one, but two sequels. The Fall sequels were announced via The Hollywood Reporter just today.
The news comes following the huge success of the first movie which opened here following a glittering premiere at FrightFest where audiences lapped it up on the IMAX screen. I cannot even imagine watching this one a screen that big.
The plot revolves around two adventure-seekers (played by Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner) who decide to scale a 2000ft radio tower only to find themselves stuck at the very top with no way down. A simple plot, perfectly executed by director Scott Mann (who we interviewed for the film here) who will return for the sequels.
We said of the first film: “In Fall, breathtaking camerawork and exceptional stunt work will leave audiences clinging to their seats. An anxiety-ridden, nerve-shredding, vertigo-inducing survival nightmare, Fall is set to terrify those both with and without a head for heights.”
The Fall sequels were virtually guaranteed with the original film bagging a whopping $20 million in box-office receipts from a reported $3 million budget. That, on top of cracking reviews, not least from us, and great word of mouth, more movies were inevitable and, even though the first one scared the shit out of us, we’d welcome with open arms.
The trade reports that also returning for the Fall sequels are producers Mark Lane and James Harris, Christian Mercuri, David Haring, and Mann who the trade says will direct the third film. Dan Asma, John Long, and Roman Viaris will executive produce.
