UK trailer for Agniia Galdanova’s documentary ‘Queendom’

The film comes to cinemas in December.

A UK trailer has been released for Agniia Galdanova’s incoming documentary Queendom. The film will be released in UK cinemas and On Demand from December 1st 2023 through Dogwoof.

had its world premiere playing in competition at SXSW and has since picked up the Next:Wave Award at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen and The Audience Award at The Camden Film Festival. The film also screened as part of the Documentary Competition at BFI London Film Festival.

The film follows Gena Marvin (she/her, non-binary), a queer artist from a small town in Russia who dresses in otherworldly costumes made from junk and tape and protests the government on the streets of Moscow.

The performances – often dark, strange, evocative, and queer at their core – are a manifestation of Gena’s subconscious. But they come at a price.

Born and raised on the harsh streets of Magadan, a frigid outpost of the Soviet gulag, Gena is only 21. She stages radical performances in public that become a new form of art and activism. By doing that, she wants to change people’s perception of beauty and queerness and bring attention to the harassment of the LGBTQ+ community.
