Looks like there’s going to be a ‘Cape Fear’ TV series from Scorsese and Spielberg

The new series will come from creator Nick Antosca.

A Cape Fear TV series is on the cards, by the looks of things. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are behind the planned show, which is currently being shopped around.

The new series will come from Nick Antosca (The Act), who is creator, executive producer and showrunner, Amblin Television and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.

According to Deadline, the series will be ‘a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.’ It will draw from both the John D. MacDonald book, first published in 1957 (as The Executioner) and the two feature films that have been adapted from it. The first film was released back in 1962 with Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Polly Bergen, and of course the ’90s version with Robert De Niro and director Martin Scorsese.

Bidding on the series is said to be at the early stages but I expect this one to be picked up. I love both movies and look forward to seeing what they are planning with the new series as they are looking to make the story revolve around a pair of married warring attorneys who have an issue with a recently release convict. In the two movies, only the husband was a lawyer.
