I’m going to lay this down now, Poor Things is my favourite film that I’ve seen this year. It is absolutely unique, very, very funny, and completely brilliant in every other way. The film won’t actually see cinemas in the UK until next year, but another new trailer has been released for it.
At the moment, the film has a release date set for 12th January with a superb, potentially Oscar-nominated (at least) Emma Stone leading the cast along with Mark Ruffalo (who I think delivers a career-best performance).
From the filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman bought back to life by the brilliant Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Defoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
You can check out the new trailer below and I urge you to see this just as soon as you have the chance.
