The first Back To Black trailer has arrived online. Marisa Abela leads the cast as the late singer/ songwriter Amy Winehouse in the biopic which is released in cinemas later this year.
Sam Taylor-Johnson directs the new film about the life and career of Winehouse who passed away in 2011.
The synopsis is as follows:
A celebration of the most iconic – and much missed – homegrown star of the 21st century, BACK TO BLACK tells the extraordinary tale of Amy Winehouse. Painting a vivid, vibrant picture of the Camden streets she called home and capturing the struggles of global fame, BACK TO BLACK honours Amy’s artistry, wit, and honesty, as well as trying to understand her demons. An unflinching look at the modern celebrity machine and a powerful tribute to a once-in-a-generation talent.

The title of the film is taken from Winehouse’s second studio album ‘Back To Black’ which was released in 2006. The album featured the iconic tracks ‘Rehab’, ‘Tears Dry on Their Own’ and ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ among many others. It was her final studio album before here untimely death. The album won Best Pop Vocal Album and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2008 Grammys.
The film, which has the support of the Amy Winehouse Estate, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Publishing, is set to arrive in cinemas on 12th April with other territories to follow.
