In some rather unsurprising news, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, George Miller’s latest entry in the Mad Max saga, will get its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this May, according to an official press release. The announcement is confirmation of the first film set to screen at this year’s festival.
The film will screen at the festival on 15th May before being released in cinemas from 24th May.
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
“The idea of this prequel has been with me for over a decade,” said George Miller. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to the Festival de Cannes – along with Anya, Chris and Tom – to share Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. There is no better place than La Croisette to experience this film with audiences on the world stage.”
