‘The Crow’ is getting a 30th anniversary 4K UHD Release

The film was the last work of the great Brandon Lee.

Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you would have heard that there is a remake of The Crow coming to screens later this summer. The film is set to land in cinemas in June but here’s some news about the 1990s adaptation of the same graphic novel. It looks like the Brandon Lee-led film will be released on a special edition 4K UHD courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment.

Young musician Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) is brutally murdered alongside his fiancée by members of a violent gang.  On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger.  He then sets out on a macabre mission to mercilessly hunt down everyone responsible and make them answer for their crimes.

Newly remastered, The Crow will be available on 4K Ultra HD with new and legacy bonus content included within two limited-edition SteelBooks. The SteelBooks include both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray discs, with one featuring an o-ring with a cutout of a crow that lifts to reveal a portrait of Brandon Lee with his guitar, whilst the other features an o-ring with a cutout of a crow that lifts to reveal the face of Brandon Lee. It will also be available as a standard 4K UHD release on June 3, 2024.

Originally released on May 13, 1994, The Crow entranced audiences and critics alike with its gothic aesthetic, breathtaking action, and Brandon Lee’s soulful performance at the center of director Alex Proyas’ revenge fantasy.  A sleeper box office hit, the film developed a passionate cult following that spawned three sequels, a television series, a video game, toys, and novels.  Based on the comic book saga of the same name by James O’Barr, The Crow delivers an action-packed thriller bursting with hypnotic style and dazzling visuals.

All three releases include a brand-new three-part documentary created for the 30th anniversary entitled “Shadows & Pain: Designing The Crow.”  The new piece is a fascinating deep dive with legendary production designer Alex McDowell, who discusses all aspects of designing the 1994 classic, as well as his experience working with visionary director Alex Proyas and the film’s late star, Brandon Lee.

The dates of release are May 6, 2024 (4k Ultra HD and Blu-ray Steelbook) and June 3, 2024 (4k Ultra HD).
