The forthcoming feature from Blumhouse is a remake of the 2022 Danish psychological horror thriller Gaesterne. That movie premiered at Sundance that year from director Christian Tafdrup who wrote the script with Mads Tafdrup. That film earned 11 Danish Film Awards nominations, the Danish equivalent of the Oscars.

In the remake, McAvoy stars as a charismatic, alpha-male estate owner whose untrammeled hospitality masks an unspeakable darkness.

The synopsis is as follows:

When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.

Speak No Evil stars Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark FateHalt and Catch Fire) and SAG award-winner Scoot McNairy (ArgoA Quiet Place Part II) as American couple Louise and Ben Dalton, who, along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler; The Good Nurse, Riverdale), accept the weekend-holiday invitation of Paddy (McAvoy), his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi; Game of ThronesThe Fall) and their furtive, mute son Ant (newcomer Dan Hough).

McAvoy looks absolutely brilliant in this (and completely beefed up). We love the look of this one and it’s great to see the actor back on the screen. This is reminiscent of his turn in M. Night Shyamalan’s excellent, Split from a few years back.

The Speak No Evil trailer arrives ahead of a release in cinemas later this year. Universal Pictures will release the film in UK cinemas on 16th September.
