First trailer arrives for ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’

Coming to cinemas this Christmas.

Walt Disney Pictures has dropped the first trailer for their big-budget event movie Mufasa: The Lion King. The movie, in cinemas this December, is a prequel to The Lion King and is directed by Moonlight filmmaker Barry Jenkins.

The film stars Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Scar, John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. Aaron Pierre is the title character of Mufasa while Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, is voicing the role of Kiara, the daughter of King Samba and Queen Nala.

Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

The film is set to land in cinemas in time for Christmas on 20th December.
