Trailer for folk horror ‘Sorcery’ – new film set for summer release

A trailer has landed for the new folk horror Sorcery which is set to land on screens later this year. A select cinema release has been set for 14th June and comes following a UK premiere at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival.

Valentina Véliz Caileo leads the cast as a young girl using otherworldly powers to avenge her father’s brutal death at the hands of colonisers. 

A 2023 Sundance Grand Jury nominee, and winner of the 2024 Online Film Critics Award for Best Non-U.S. film, Sorcery is directed by Christopher Murray (Venice Gold Lion nominee for 2016’s The Blind Christ), and also stars Daniel Antivilo (from acclaimed Chilean shocker Hidden in the Woods), prolific Chilean actor Daniel Muñoz, and Sebastian Hülk (Netflix series All Quiet On The Western Front).

The synopsis is as follows:

On the remote island of Chiloé in the late 19th century, an Indigenous girl named Rosa lives and works with her father on a farm. When the foreman brutally turns on Rosa’s father, she sets out for justice, seeking help from the king of a powerful organisation of sorcerers.
