Grisham’s ‘The Rainmaker’ is set to become a TV series

USA Network stateside has given the green light to a TV series based on John Grisham’s 1990s novel The Rainmaker. The new show is set to roll into production soon which will be executive produced by the man himself as well as Jason Blum for Blumhouse Television and Lionsgate Television.

The work was previously turned into a movie back in 1997, adapted for the screen and directed by none other than Megalopolis helmer Francis Ford Coppola. Matt Damon and Danny DeVito were among the cast of that movie which I remember being quite decent. Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Mary Kay Place, Mickey Rourke, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider, Virginia Madsen and Teresa Wright also appeared in the movie.

I’ve posted the trailer for that one below.

As for the new series, Michael Seitzman (Code Black) and Jason Richman (Stumptown) are behind the new series, co-writing the pilot.

The series, like the film and the source novel, will revolve around an underdog lawyer who takes on a fraudulent insurance company.

No word on exactly when production will kick off but we’ll keep you posted.
