The very first Gladiator II trailer has landed online. The promo comes following yesterday’s poster debut and boy does this look good.
The film is obviously the follow-up to Rodney Scott’s Oscar-winning Gladiator which was released all of the way back in 2000. Gladiator II comes to cinema screens through Paramount Pictures and is produced by Douglas Wick, Ridley Scott, Lucy Fisher, Michael Pruss, and David Franzoni. David Scarpa wrote the screenplay based on characters created by David Franzoni. The story is by Peter Craig and David Scarpa.
No Russell Crowe this time around, but Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington line up among the impressive cast.
Gladiator, the striking original led by Crowe garnered no less than five Oscar wins, including one for its main actor. It also scored Best Picture as well as taking $465.4 million worldwide during its run. That movie had a reported budget of around $103 million but this new one is considerably more.
The new one (as per the IMDB) follows Lucius (played by Mescal), the son of Maximus’s love Lucilla, after Maximus’s death.
Filming has taken place in the UK, Morocco, Malta (where the first movie was shot) and most recently at South Downs at Devil’s Dyke, Sussex. Mescal was spotted on set filming scenes for the movie.
Footage from the film was screened at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this year with the crowds lapping up what was on display. Around five minutes of scenes, albeit reportedly unfinished, were screened at the event at Caesar’s Palace in the city.
The first Gladiator II trailer can be viewed below. The film will be released in cinemas on 15th November and we, among millions of others around the world, are expecting big things. Are you not entertained already?
