After causing plenty of sleepless nights with Two Witches, the trio of director Pierre Tsigaridis, writer Maxime Rancon, and star Rebekah Kennedy, are back with Traumatika. If you thought Two Witches was scary, buckle up as Traumatika is a non-stop onslaught of terror. Given Traumatika’s harrowing content it seems only right that the film receives its UK premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest.
Running from Thursday 22nd August to Monday 26th August, this year FrightFest turns 25 and the screening of Pierre Tsigaridis’ latest venture is sure to make the event a memorable one. Traumatika features a blend of elements from the hellbound genre with that of the slasher to forge a fresh innovative concept in shock and increase the sensory impact. Employing multiple first-person point-of-view shots to immerse the audience in traumatic childhood experiences, the question is why is little Mikey (Ranen Navat) terrified of his mother (Rebekah Kennedy)? Maybe it’s because of an evil inside her? Mikey’s night terrors become reality when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession. What he is about to experience will haunt him for the rest of his life and will claim countless lives across generations.
Told over a number of years Traumatika explores the devastating aftereffects of childhood trauma through a variety of horror styles and conventions. The result is a film that keeps the viewer on their toes, the uncertainty of where the story will go next inducing a palpable paranoia that will shred even the most stoic of FrightFest attendees. Traumatika screens at FrightFest on the Main Screen on Saturday 24th August at 6:15pm. Ahead of the UK premiere, THN spoke with Pierre Tsigaridis, Maxime Rancon, and Rebekah Kennedy to find out more about their newest collaboration.
