Will Sydney Sweeney join Glen Powell in Edgar Wright’s ‘Running Man’ movie?

The film kicks off production this October.

Big news ahoy after it has been revealed that Anyone But You co-stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are set to reunite for Edgar Wright’s re-do of The Running Man.

Anyone But You

Powell is already attached to the movie but news seemingly comes from Daniel Richtman that Sweeney could join him in the adaptation of the Richard Bachman (Stephen King) novel of the same name that was famously turned into a 1980s action flick with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now we expect the new version will be a completely different vice to that film. What we do know is that Powell is set to play the Schwarzenegger role of Ben Richards who enters a futuristic game show to get hold of medicine for his sick child. There he is pursued by relentless hitmen who he obviously must avoid to bag the cash. No word on who Sweeney would play at this stage, though.

The Running Man is ‘a story that is set in an America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to placate the disenfranchised masses.’ In a fitting turn of events, the novel was set in the year 2025 which could be the year that the new film version hits cinemas. Production is set to kick off in October.

The teaming of Powell and Sweeney is a winning one with Anyone But You scoring a massive $220 million from a $25 million budget. I’m a big fan of the movie (which can be found on NOW TV and Sky Cinema in the UK) and there’s no doubt that there is some great chemistry between the two. We’ll see how this pans out.

More as it comes in.
