Gus Van Sant reportedly in early talks for ‘Killing Gawker’ movie

Ben Affleck has been rumoured to play Hulk Hogan but there is no cast attached at this time.

Gus Van Sant is reportedly in early talks to direct Killing Gawker, a film based on true events surrounding the 2016 court case between the wrestler Hulk Hogan and Gawker Media. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s company Artist Equity is producing.

The project is written by Charles Randolph, based on the book Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue by Ryan Holiday, which revolves around Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker Media, its founder Nick Denton and one of its editors.

The InSneider Newsletter scored the scoop on Van Sant’s involvement in the project. There has also been some speculation online in the past few days that Ben Affleck (pictured above) is set to play Hogan in the film but the trade Deadline specifically says that the pair are ‘not attached to star at this time.’ They will, however, produce.

This is big news as Damon, Affleck and the filmmaker famously worked on the ’90s breakout and multi award-winning Good Will Hunting. Damon and Affleck scored a best original screenplay Oscar for their work in the film, and also co-starred, while Van Sant was nominated for Best Director. Personally, I would love Damon and Affleck to be in this Hogan movie as well as produce. What a dream scenario for all of them to come full circle nearly 30 years after their ’90s success with GWH.

More on this as it comes in.
