Pigeon Shrine FrightFest wouldn’t be the same without at least one film featuring someone trapped in an impossible situation. Over the years the team have screened films such as Fall, Buried, and It Stains the Sand Red, all of which have placed characters in seemingly unsurvivable circumstances. Not wanting to break from tradition during their 25th year, their choice for 2024, Survive, sees a family pitted against all manner of madness after they get shipwrecked during a storm.
Julia (Émilie Dequenne) and her loving husband Tom (Andreas Pietschmann) are celebrating their son’s birthday on their yacht in the middle of the ocean. When a violent storm nearly capsizes them, the family awakens in a post-apocalyptic desert land – the Earth has undergone a tragic polarity reversal that has drained all the water from the seven seas. Danger lurks in every nook and cranny that once were hidden depths. When an unexpected tragedy strikes, Julia must save her children, Cassie (Lisa Delamar) and Ben (Lucas Ebel), in a new world where crazed humanity and hungry creatures from the abyss now hunt for human flesh.
Survive will receive its UK premiere at FrightFest and is sure to have attendees’ throats in their mouths as they watch this poor family try to endure insurmountable odds. Ahead of the screening THN spoke with actress Lisa Delamar who plays teenage daughter Cassie in the film. This role marks her first step into feature film acting and so we spoke about how her first experience on a film set went, channelling her inner survivalist, and why audiences shouldn’t miss Survive.
Survive screens at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest on Saturday 24th August. More information on the film and tickets can be found on the FrightFest website. Survive is available on Digital Platforms 30th September. Distributed by Signature Entertainment.
