Road to FrightFest: Zoey Luna chats about new horror ‘Hauntology’

Zoey Luna got her first big break starring in Rosario Dawson’s directorial debut, Boundless. She followed that with a turn in The Craft Legacy in which she played Lourdes, one of the film’s new coven members. Now she joins horror anthology, Hauntology, from writer and director Parker Brennon. Whereas other anthologies feature a mixture of directors, Hauntology is Brennon’s singular vision. The decision to keep the film under the creative control of one voice is a welcome one, and Hauntology has been generating plenty of buzz. Hauntology is soon to have its international premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest.

Jazmin (Samantha Russell) takes her fearless runaway younger sibling, Venus (Jaidyn Triplett), on a road trip and shares the most chilling tales surrounding their Ohio hometown. Each place they visit has its own ghost story and queer perspective: trans woman Julian (Zoey Luna) casts a spell to become her ideal self, but the dark spirit unleashed tries to invade her life; a troubled married couple find love beyond the grave; an up-and-coming art gallery is forging paintings of a deceased artist with very bloody consequences; and a journalist secures an interview with the eccentric owner of a haunted Victorian mansion.

Featuring four different ghost stories, each set to a different season, Hauntology would make a great gateway horror film for younger teens. This was a similar comment about Zoey Luna’s The Craft Legacy, so is she deliberately trying to corner the market on the new generation’s first dalliance with horror cinema? Prior to the screening at FrightFest we were able to ask Zoey Luna exactly that, as well as discussing her experience working with Brennon and why FrightFest attendees should be wanting to watch Hauntology.

Hauntology screens at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest on Friday 23rd August. More information on the film and tickets can be found on the FrightFest website.
