In Strange Darling, nothing is what it seems when a twisted one-night stand spirals into a serial killer’s vicious murder spree. Written and directed by JT Mollner, Strange Darling stars Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner as strangers involved in the one-night stand, with the supporting cast including acting heavyweights Ed Begley Jr. and Barbara Hershey.
We at THN have been strong supporters of Strange Darling since we caught it at the end of 2023 during our coverage of Fantastic Fest. An intoxicating blend of shocks and sensuality, this is a film that is best experienced knowing as little as possible. One thing that is safe to share is that Strange Darling has an excellent soundtrack provided by musician, Z Berg. Those that have seen the teaser trailer will have already heard some of Z Berg’s work, the spellbinding cover of Nazzareth’s classic hit ‘Love Hurts.’ This is just the tip of Strange Darling’s audio soundscape and Z Berg’s work compliments JT Mollner’s direction and Giovanni Ribisi’s cinematography perfectly.
Strange Darling releases into US cinemas on 23rd August alongside the digital release of Z Berg’s soundtrack. Those in the UK will have to wait slightly longer to see the film, with Strange Darling set to arrive in cinemas from the 20th September. Ahead of the US release of both film and soundtrack, THN were able to spend time talking with Z Berg. We discovered more about the process of reversioning a classic, how being involved with Strange Darling from early doors helped shape her mindset for the project, and exactly how it feels to now be forever entwined with a slice of cinematic gold.
Z Berg’s Strange Darling soundtrack is released for streaming on Friday 23rd August. Strange Darling is released in cinemas across America on Friday 23rd August. Pigeon Shrine FrightFest will host the European premiere of Strange Darling on Saturday 24th August. Strange Darling will arrive in UK cinemas from Friday 20th September.
